Okay, how about that? It really was a collaborative effort and it is like that for everything. It was a group of us across both sides of the team who worked on that. For the story, for example, I can't just point to one person. Which I think is one of the reasons why this works, the development is so intermingled. Newman: So in that little tiny snippet of a scene that I just played on the phone, who came up with the UI? Who brought the graphic assets to the game, who actually animated those assets into something that turned into a piece of a story? Who was responsible for the story?īerger: It's so intermingled. The marriage of those makes the game the best possible mobile game you can make. We have a tremendous amount of expertise with the lore, and the story, and the Diablo world and the feel and the great gameplay. They have tremendous amount of expertise with bringing a game to mobile. It's a little confusing, actually.īut it's a really a collaborative process working with NetEase. Zierhut: They don't trust but then we deliver, again, and still they don't trust the next time. Newman: You're asking the community to trust? We want it to be the most-fun-possible game we can make, and that comes before any other concern. Newman: How did the development relationship work with, between the two of you, for this game? NetEase has a certain reputation outside of their work with Blizzard but that brings some baggage.īerger: When you launch the game, one of the first things you will see is the word Blizzard. Zierhut: Yeah, we've been working with them for a little over 10 years. ![]() Newman: Blizzard has had a relationship with NetEase for a really long time to operate Blizzard games in China. A 'Diablo: Immortal' crusader doing what looks like a mobile version of Steed Charge. ![]()
